Chapman Mountain Nature Preserve
Free admission. A Land Trust of North Alabama membership/donation is encouraged!
Trails open: from dawn until dusk daily.
Best for: Beginner through Intermediate riders.
This area is managed by the Land Trust of North Alabama and currently has about 5 miles of cross country trails, which HAMR has recently improved and begun utilizing as part of our race series. Chapman is ideally equipped with a pavilion, restrooms, easy Green lower trails (Driskell and Chasco), and a few more challenging Blue-rated options as you climb up the mountain.
Chapman is a shared recreational system with HORSES, hikers, and bikers. Remember: HORSES always have the right-of-way. Please stop, pull over, and speak calmly to the riders of any horses that you encounter to learn what they need you to do. This will keep everyone safe and happy on the shared trails!
This system is a work in progress which began in 2017 when SORBA Huntsville received an IMBA Dig In grant to fund a Master Trails Plan at Chapman. The Land Trust acquired 92 additional acres in May of 2022, which will eventually lead to the further expansion of this trail system. We are looking forward to this growth for our community!
